Meet the horses of Coworth Park

Coworth Park
The sweet, grassy scent of hay. The fluttering snort of air. The gentle swish of a tail. Equestrian at Coworth Park is like any other stable. What makes it remarkable, however, is our friendly herd of horses. Let us introduce you to the ponies behind the paddock.

Our luxury country hotel has over 240 acres to explore, and one of the best ways to do so is on horseback. But before you trot and canter around our estate, get to know the pony properly – after all, they’re known to synchronise their heartbeat to yours and mirror the energy you give off.

Here, we’ve helpfully broken down each of our ponies’ personalities so that the next time you visit for a ride, lesson or one of our equestrian experiences, you’re a bit more familiar with each one.

Pony profiles

 Roxy

  • A grey Welsh mountain pony who has been with us the longest

  • Grew up among green pastures and rolling hills, so naturally enjoys a countryside trek

  • Has a particular fondness for little riders

  • And a deep affection for snacks

Tom

  • A lovely old gentleman at 26 years old

  • Has a velvety caramel coat that’s a delight to stroke

  • Originally from the New Forest and feels most at home underneath big oak trees

  • Once pretended to have a cough that magically only appeared when the riding equipment came out

Aero

  • An ex-show jumping horse who now enjoys the slow life

  • Isn’t the biggest fan of social events and will stare into space a little to dissociate

  • Much prefers a relaxing ride through the grounds

  • Instantly recognisable with his beautiful spotted coat

Dolly

  • A pretty mare who previously played polo

  • She’s very straightforward and knows what she wants

  • It took her a while to find her perfect paddock – she moved eight times until she finally settled

  • Turns out, she just likes personal space

Theo

  • A pretty mare who previously played polo

  • She’s very straightforward and knows what she wants

  • It took her a while to find her perfect paddock – she moved eight times until she finally settled

  • Turns out, she just likes personal space

Bonbon

  • So called because she’s round and sweet

  • While she might be 25 years old, she’s young at heart

  • Loves a good scratch and a snack

  • And her striking vitiligo markings around her eyes make her a favourite among riders

Weeble

  • Our biggest horse

  • Used to be in the police force and has lived many different lives

  • Likes a more experienced rider to canter around the estate with

  • Does have a naughty streak, as shown last winter when he faked a limp to avoid leaving his warm and cosy stable

Sausage

  • A Shetland pony who is new to our stables

  • Has that stereotypical playful side, earning him the nickname ‘Spicy Sausage’

  • May or may not try to nibble the back of your knees

  • Came in to replace our beloved Sherry, who is now living her best life in the Spanish resort of Sotogrande with her adopted family

Whether it’s a lesson for first-timers, a celebratory champagne ride for two or a moment of mindfulness for wellness-seekers, all our equestrian experiences are entirely bespoke and make the perfect countryside activity for your next weekend break in England.
